Do you think the desparation of this lame-ass country really needed an excuse for martial law? A broken economy (long before the shrimpers hauled in nets), broken trust in institutions (Supreme Court screwing the Exxon-Valdez fisherman and death of communities in Prince William Sound). Gulf debacle, just a diversion. Drew.......for President, 2012!

I am amazed and ashamed the Louisiana State Troopers are doing this! Not surprised at BP, though. Thank you for your work!

Drew,
Don't volunteer your info to a police officer. Make them ask.
Also, if you are harassed by the police like that again -- call the police. Seriously. You will get the sunofab*tch's supervisor out in the field and then he will have to explain why he is bothering, stopping, and detaining someone without probable cause.

James, Yeah, I really blew it. Should have never gotten out of the car. should have filmed the whole thing. The state cops are denying everything, but I am maintaining my position. I know what happened, and have a picture to corroborate, as well as the data from the call he made to the station, unless he was off duty, and that call actually went to BP, or a private security firm, which is highly possible.
Spoke to the head PR guy for the state police tonight, ALL on tape and videoed, (with his permission). I get scared and intimidated with cops. Lots of bad history.

OMG! OMG! OMG !
Mr. Wheelan, YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT & I AM A LOCAL HERE !
I am so pissed this happened to you ! I just found out about this yesterday in our paper! Thank you houmatoday.com ! Thank you Drew , don't give up !

Just wanted to inform everyone, first, Houma is pronounced Houma (Homa), not Huma!!!!!!! Secondly, it was not the state troopers questioning Mr. Whealan, it was a parish deputy from the parish sheriff's office.
Mr. Whealan would not have been questioned had he not set up video recordings in a nearby field. He was hiding, which would be suspicious to any officer, even if he was refused an interview earlier. I'm from Houma and I'm extrememly upset that this is happening to our coast, but this is not helping anything. No one man will stop the chemicals being used. And no one group will either.
And this video doesn't say anything. Does it???? BP does not have the cops in their pocket. But they do have a job to do. And Mr. Whealan, you used your badge in a way that was not truthful. You were misrepresenting youself from the beginning. Let's all be HONEST here! This is just a one sided story. The cop would have had no reason to question him if he did not act suspicious.

Hi Carol, thanks for your opinion. I have to respectfully disagree, and say that I was not hiding, or acting in any suspicious manner, which was clear to the officer when he left me alone the first time. He was well within his bounds in the first place to ask about my activities, but not to tell me not to film. He had no right commenting on my behavior. He also had no right to pull me over and detain me in the second encounter, as he had already determined that I was NOT a threat or suspicious, and acknowledge that by leaving me alone. Had he thought I was a threat, he would have stayed with me and arrested me, which he didn't. Also, I never mis-represented myself, or hid anything about my volunteer badge. I told them exactly how and why I got it. I think maybe you are listening to your politics and not the facts, but I respect your right to your opinion. And if you think that one voice can't make a difference, then why did you comment here, because you are certainly the on and only voice that I've heard in two weeks that has this opinion of the situation.
