Keep in mind this book is often considered to be the best field guide ever produced. The quality of illustrations are incredible, as well as the text. It also covers North Africa and the western Middle East.

I didn't notice a whole lot of difference between the first and second edition. Their are some insets that are obviously based on some of those in the NatGeo books here, and these looked very useful. The taxonomy has also been updated and a few plates redone. The one think I like better about my first edition copy is that the cover is more weather-proof, though maybe not quite as classy with the bullfinches against the black.

The book also has great info on some birds we get here too. For example, find myself referring to this book for Jaegers more than I do for any North America guide.
